The Scottish Journal of Theology was founded after the Second World War to provide a forum for the critical inquiry and fresh thinking that were needed to end the confusion prevailing in academic theology. Its founders hoped to establish modern theology on a sounder scientific basis which would command wider agreement. The journal seeks to meet the needs of both university and church through constant dialogue with the other sciences and engagement with the issues of the day. It publishes contributions of major theological and philosophical interest from some of the world's leading theologians and younger thinkers in relevant fields of inquiry, and at the same time regularly carries articles in biblical and applied theology intended to help the preacher and the teacher. A feature of the journal is the attention it gives to important theological literature produced in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch and Scandinavian languages as well as in English.
The editors aim at producing a broadly-based international journal which participates in ecumenical renewal and plays a role in theological renaissance and reconstruction. The fact that it is Scottish-based does not import any restriction in its international scope. |
